H. cruentatus is sometimes tell to be the only one specie in the Hetepriacanthus genus. We can talk about monotypic taxon. But it seems that there's also the [H. fulgens](https://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=1562041#distributions)...
The reason why there would be a different genus from Priacanthus may be depending on :
- Body shape: Members of the Heteropriancanthus typically have a more elongated body when Priacantus sp. have a more compact and rounded body.
- The etymology of Heteropriacanthus may say that there's different, or varied bigeye. So the eye size and placement may really differ between individuals, and also between the right and left eye of a same individual.
- The coloration can differ and Heteropriacanthus may have more vivid colors
- They have a different distribution that Priacanthus genus.
